    Set Table Size Calculator

The Set Table Size calculator allows you to dynamically adjust set attributes to enable you to view the impact of different attributes on the Key Entry Size and File Size.  This allows you to determine better balanced sets, optimising both disk space and performance.

This tool is particularly useful for assessing the impact of garbage collection on the File Size of your sets.

When the Dataset Block Calculator is loaded it automatically loads the attributes value of the currently selected Dataset.

Shortcut Key: Ctrl+S

    Record Format View

The Record Format View will display the format of the data items within the record.  Selecting the Record Format View will initiate a separate form that displays the record in a graphical manner.  This will show how the data items offsets affect the amount of wasted space that a record can hold in the form of fillers and control information.

This form allows you to define general options for the Client Program.

These options include

Company Name

Unsaved Batch File Directory

There is a 'Reset to default' button which will reset the Batch File Directories to their default settings

Shortcut Key: Ctrl+O

Company Name

The Company Name Field is the name of your company.  The value held in this field is used along with your Server Names to generate your Server Keys.  Changing your Company Name after the issuing of Server Keys will render them invalid.

  Run Reports on Load

The Run Reports on Load option causes the Standard Reports to be run automatically when a Batch File is loaded into the Database View.

If you do not 'Run Reports on Load', the load time into the Database View is reduced.  Groups of reports may still be run after the Database is loaded.

  Add Data Items on Load

When you check the Add Data Items on Load option it will add the Data Items to the Structures in the Description File Information of the Database View

NB If you do not 'Add Data Items on Load', the load time into the Database View is reduced.  As a consequence of this the Bits Waste Per Record, for Datasets, and Bits Waste Per Entry, for Sets, is not calculated and set to 0 bits.  Any derived wastage reflects this value and will reduce the indicated amount of waste accordingly.

  Date Format

There are three date formats available:-

International                              YYYY/MM/DD

United Kingdom                       DD/MM/YYYY

United States                            MM/DD/YYYY

Note that when the date format is changed that the Tree View displays will not change to the new format until the Batch file is reloaded.  All of the dates displaying attributes are changed automatically

  Saved Batch File Directory

The Saved Batch File Directory is the Directory that Batch Files are copied into when they are Saved.  It is designed to segregate new and old files.   This directory should be backed up regularly and may be manually housekept.

Important Notes

It is recommended that you point this option at a different directory to the Unsaved Batch File Directory.

When Database definitions are deleted from the Enterprise View the Batch Files will remain in this directory unless specifically deleted.

Once this option has been set it cannot be changed unless you click the ‘Set Defaults’ button.

The default value is no value.  It is recommended that this is changed immediately.

  Unsaved Batch File Directory

The Unsaved Batch File Directory is the Directory in which Virtual Analyser will search for Batch Files which have not yet been saved into the program.  This directory may be any directory on your network.  The design of this feature is to enable you to map a network drive to a Clearpath File Directory Share and automatically upload files when the file is saved, this will negate the need for FTP file transfer.

Important Notes

It is recommended that you point this option at a different directory to the Saved Batch File Directory.

When Unsaved Batch Files are deleted from the Enterprise View the Batch Files completely deleted.

Once this option has been set it cannot be changed unless you click the ‘Set Defaults’ button.

The default value is the directory of the Client program installation.
