    The Client Program

The Virtual Analyser Client Program is used to analyze the data extracted by the Server Program.  It is designed around the treeview mechanism on the left hand side and a data attribute display on the right hand side to display one of two main views; Enterprise View and Database View

        Client Installation

The Client program can be installed through a standardised setup.exe program.  Once the program is installed there will be a sample Database available for viewing.

If all the default options are taken through the installation process the following files will found in the C:/Program Files/VirtualAnalyser directory:-

va4.exe                        Client Program

conn.nr                         Connection, Database and Batch File definitions

options.nr                    Client Program option definitions

reports.nr                     Saved Report definitions

conn.nr file

The conn.nr file contains the Server, Server Key, Database and Batch File definitions.  These are automatically maintained by the Client Program.

If there is a corruption of the conn.nr file it is copied away in the Client Program directory and emptied.  The naming convention for the copied corrupt file is conn<yymmddhhmm>.nr.  As this file holds all of the set up of your database information it is important either to correct the error in the file or reload the Batch Files that you wish to use.

A typical corruption of the conn.nr file is where a Batch file is saved twice into the Client Program.  This causes a duplicate reference which needs to be removed.

options.nr file

The options.nr file contains the client System Options.  These options may be maintained through the system options dialogue which is accessed through the Tools/System Options menu choice.

If you have installed the Client Program into any other directory other than the default you will need to change the system options to point to the appropriate locations.

If you have any problems with the options.nr file you may remove it and default settings are used to create a new file.

reports.nr file

The reports.nr file contains the Saved Adhoc Report definitions.  This file is maintained through the Client Program.

If there is a corruption of the reports.nr file it is copied away in the Client Program directory and emptied.  The naming convention for the copied corrupt file is rep<yymmddhhmm>.nr.

Program Initiation

When the Client Program is initiated for the first time it will register itself and the file extension .nmr as its file extension association.  This means that whenever a file with the .nmr file extension is double clicked it the client program is initiated and the file is loaded into the Database View.

If the conn.nr, options.nr or reports.nr files are missing they are initialised.

        Client Configuration

Initial Installation

After the initial installation it is recommended that you configure your batch file locations.  This is achieved by accessing the Options Dialogue by selecting the Tools Menu/System Options.

It is recommended that you create a folder or directory that you require the Saved Batch Files into.  Once the folder/directory has been created you should change your Batch File Directory options to reference this location.

Server Keys

A valid Server Key must be associated with the Server Definition for a Batch File to be opened and analysed by the Client Program.  The Server Key is a 16 character code separated by hyphens, which is only valid for batch files created on that server for a defined period of time.

To add a Server Key to a Server Definition and click on the appropriate Server in the treeview and then click on the  'Server Key' Button on the Right hand side of the form.  Doing this will initiate a separate form that allows you to enter the Key sent to you.  You may either enter the key manually or paste the key into the appropriate field and it will enter it automatically in the key fields stripping the hyphens from the pasted text.

To obtain any Server Key you must hold a valid license agreement.

Server Keys may be defined for each individual Server or a for all Servers within your company.
